Message from the Dean
Welcome to the University of Pretoria, and thanks for choosing UP! The Faculty of Education is set in its own beautiful campus and surroundings at UP’s Groenkloof Campus, a stone’s throw away from the Hatfield Campus. Our campus gives you access to some of the best infrastructure, libraries, laboratories, sports facilities and lecturers, which all help to prepare our students for future work opportunities in South Africa and beyond.
Our professional programmes in education are relevant and internationally recognised and accredited. We produce competent teachers of a high calibre with an excellent, in-depth knowledge of their subject fields.

The Faculty of Education at the UP is one of the largest and most diverse facilities in Africa for the training of education professionals from across the world. The Faculty is internationally recognised for its academic standards and its research citations.
Research Areas
The research areas of the Faculty of Education are HIV/AIDS in Education, Language and Literacy in Education, Assessment, Evaluation and Quality Assurance, Early Childhood Education, Science, Mathematics and Technology Education, Power, Reform, Change and Continuity in Education and Teacher Development and Professionalism.
UP aims to create an enabling environment in which our postgraduate students and their supervisors can function optimally. Our supervisors provide academic guidance and mentorship to students and are key role players in the administrative efficiency of postgraduate study.

Funding Opportunities
As a postgraduate student or prospective student at UP, there are a number of research resources available to you to identify suitable research funding opportunities. Apart from the University, many companies and institutions offer scholarships and bursaries for postgraduate studies. The University manages a number of financial funds on behalf of institutions who provide such funding. Applications for financial assistance, bursaries or funding must be submitted concurrently while you apply for admittance to your postgraduate programme. Funding is subject to approval and availability.
